A celebration suddenly ended in mayhem when a shooting transpired following the Kansas City Chiefs parade. Police subsequently arrested Dominic Miller and Lyndell Mays in connection to the incident.
On February 20, 2024, Miller and Mays were named suspects in the Kansas City parade shooting. Both have been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, the shooting escalated when two groups confronted each other about unwarranted stares. “A verbal altercation occurred and gunfire broke out with no regard for thousands of other individuals in the area,” prosecutors announced in a press conference.
Mays was the first to supposedly draw his weapon as the altercation progressed, and Miller allegedly returned fire in Mays’ direction. Unfortunately, the shootout resulted in the fatal wounding of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, with 25 others injured.
While Lopez-Galvan was the only victim to succumb to her injuries, the effort and dedicated hours spent to expeditiously investigate this senseless act of violence has been commended by her family. “Though it does not bring back our beloved Lisa, it is comforting to know that the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office and the KCPD made it a top priority to seek justice for Lisa,” the family expressed in a statement.
The joint team effort has resulted in the identification of the suspects involved, reassuring the family and the entire community that justice is being sought for all the victims, witnesses, and the Kansas City community.
