The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) President, Bessa Simons, has commended the upcoming Akwaaba Festival, describing it as a platform showcasing the rich and diverse cultural output of Ghana. MUSIGA is working closely with the organizers to ensure a successful outcome for the festival.
Scheduled to take place from March 6 to March 8 at the National Theatre, the Akwaaba Festival is in its third edition. Organized by Joe Osae’s Ceejay Multimedia in partnership with MUSIGA and supported by the Ghana Tourism Authority, the festival provides a viable platform for arts practitioners from all shades to express their art.
Ceejay Multimedia’s CEO, Joe Osae, is known for his versatility on the cultural and multimedia fronts and has been instrumental in bringing the Akwaaba Festival to life since 2022.
The festival will feature a variety of activities, including exhibitions and sale of Ghanaian art and craft, traditional textiles and fashion accessories, local beverages, and a food bazaar. Additionally, there will be free live performances by MUSIGA on March 6 and March 7.
Bessa Simons emphasized the importance of music as an integral part of the festival, noting that music offers a capable wing on which events of all sorts can fly. He also highlighted the preparations of MUSIGA members who are rehearsing hard and are eager to showcase their talents at the festival.
The climax of the Akwaaba Festival will be on March 8, with Akwaaba Night set to feature a brilliant mix of music, fashion, and dance. The night will also include performances by acts like the Ghana Dance Ensemble, guitarist Akablay and his Abiza Band, and highlife maestro Pat Thomas. Additionally, the night will incorporate an awards program and the launch of the Miss Akwaaba 2024 pageant.
