A police officer, Constable Prince Amoah, died during a patrol in Enchi-Kwawu, Aowin Municipality, Western North Region.

Reports say the police patrol visited small-scale mining sites to monitor activities before a bridge part collapsed.

As a result, their vehicle plunged into the river, killing one officer on the spot. Four others were rushed to the hospital.

Residents claim the police come to extort money from illegal miners and the authorities are aware of it.

They also stated that this is the second time a police vehicle has fallen into the river at a mining site in the area.

The deceased officer’s body has been deposited at Samraboi mortuary for further investigations.

Residents want the authorities to act and stop police extortion and illegal mining to prevent such incidents from happening again and risking more lives.
