This HD clip is of the newly-completed George W. Bush Motorway, which is the former section of the Kwame Nkrumah Motorway that runs between Mallam Junction & Tetteh Quarshie Circle.
This was filmed in February 2012, from one of several footbridges near Abofu, in northern Accra. On the previous day, former President J.A. Kufuor attended a ceremony with current President J.A. Mills, to open the GWB Motorway formally.
When I first arrived in Ghana in early December 2011, only one side of the road was opened, and while it was still a major improvement over the former KN Motorway, it was still slow. But towards the end of my trip, they opened the GWB Motorway for both lanes up to the Achimota Interchange, and finally opened Mallam Junction.
The road is now probably one of the best in Accra, and Mallam Junction has gone from dreadful (I waited over 2 hours to go through – two days later they opened the new overflys), to an excellent interchange.
