Two people have been confirmed dead after they were trapped in a collapsed galamsey pit in the Asante Akyem Central Municipality in the Ashanti Region.
Two others who were rescued from the pit alive are currently in the hospital receiving treatment.
Rescue mission is still underway to determine if others are trapped in the collapsed pit.
The incident, according to the NADMO Director for the area Isaac Kyei, happened Sunday evening when the illegal miners entered the pit to search for gold.
Mr. Kyei added that the two illegal miners who survived the incident will be interrogated if they regain consciousness.
This is the second galamsey pit collapse in the last few weeks after a similar incident claimed 22 illegal miners at Prestea.
