The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) will be once again renamed in honour of the Founder and First Director of the educational centre.

Until October 9, 2012, following the Presidential assent to the University of Professional Studies Act, 2012 (Act 850), the university was called Institute of Professional Studies.

The rename of the university was announced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at a Special Congregation held to confer Honorary Doctorate degrees on two distinguished persons.

The first honor went to Nana Opoku-Ampomah, who is an educationist, businessman, and Paramount Chief of Amoafo-Bekwai in Ashanti Region of Ghana.

Also, the university conferred a doctoral honor on Mr. Ahmad Ahmad, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA Vice-President, in recognition of his remarkable public service and outstanding contribution to the development of African Football.
