Medical superintendent arrested over hospital theft – Starr Fm

The Medical Superintendent of the New Abirem government hospital, Dr. Osei Bonsu has been arrested by the Police for allegedly attempting to steal medical equipment to his private hospital in Kumasi.

Dr. Bonsu was arrested after a vehicle belonging to the Ministry of Health was intercepted in the New Abirem township conveying some hospital equipment to Kumasi.

The items included 1 Delivery lamp, 3 hospital beds and a water horse all belonging to the Abirem government hospital.

According to the Eastern regional Public Relations Officer of the Police Service ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, Dr. Bonsu owns a private clinic in Kumasi and it is believed he was transporting the items through the driver Edward Damptey when the vehicle was intercepted.

Upon interrogation the driver revealed that he was asked by the medical superintendent to send the items to his private clinic at Kumasi.

The Medical Superintendent also told the police that it was the first time he was transporting such items to his private clinic in Kumasi.

The Police is, however, yet to ascertain with the Store Keeper whether any medical consumables or items have been missing since he assumed office over a year ago.

The Medical Superintendent will be arraigned before court for stealing after investigations are concluded.

Meanwhile, he has been granted police enquiry bail.
