Renowned Ghanaian actress and producer Yvonne Nelson has taken a stand against the ongoing ‘dumsor’ crisis in the country following a distressing incident at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Tema General Hospital.
A video that circulated on social media showed the NICU at the Tema General Hospital grappling with power cuts on Tuesday night, with a nurse highlighting the danger faced by babies in incubators.
Yvonne Nelson did not hold back in criticizing the government, calling them “wicked” and accusing them of deceiving the public for eight years.

In a direct message to President Nana Akufo-Addo on social media, Nelson questioned how he could rest peacefully at night while such crises persist. The actress’s frustration was echoed by rapper Sarkodie who expressed concern for the vulnerable infants affected by the power outages.
The heartbreaking result of the power outage was shared by Ramatu, a 24-year-old mother, who tragically lost her newborn due to the lack of electricity.
Despite her account, the hospital’s Medical Director has denied any direct casualties linked to the power cut, emphasizing that no lives were lost as a result of the incident.
The emotional plea for action from Yvonne Nelson and others sheds light on the urgent need to address the ‘dumsor’ crisis and prioritize solutions that protect the lives of all citizens, especially the most vulnerable among us.
