Ghanaian rapper Amerado has been crowned Rapper of the Year at the just-ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The 24th award ceremony which was held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, May 6, 2023, saw Amerado emerge winner of the ‘Best Rap Performance of the Year’ category. He defeated his rival Medikal, alongside former label mate Strongman, and Lyrical Joe and Teephlow to claim the rap throne.

Amerado’s hit single ‘Obia Boa’ secured him the most-discussed category. The song gained radio discussion momentum and dominated the charts during the 2022-2023 calendar year before securing him a convincing win.

Even though Medikal’s ‘Scarface’ and Strongman’s ‘Goated’ gained similar momentum, the hype around Amerado’s ‘Obiaa Boa’ never died – even till today.

The MicBurnerz Music label frontman also had four other nominations; ‘Best Hip-hop Song of the Year,’ ‘Best Collaboration of the Year,’ (with his song ‘Grace’ featuring Lasmid) ‘Best Hip-hop/Hiplife Artiste of the Year,’ and ‘Best Hiplife Song of the Year’ (with ‘Grace’ featuring Lasmid). However, he lost them all.

Right after the win, Strongman took to Twitter to congratulate him. “More wins Bro
@Amerado_Burner. Congrats Champ,” Strongman tweeted.
