UG Sports Stadium: Gov’t is commitment to accelerating Ghana’s sports development – Bawumia

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to fast-tracking sports development in the nation.

The Vice President made this known on Friday, March 1, during the official commissioning of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and Rugby Field. These newly constructed facilities are set to be utilized for the upcoming African Games, Accra 2023, alongside the Borteyman Sports Complex.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia highlighted that the commissioning of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium and the rugby field signifies Ghana’s readiness to host the prestigious sports event, marking the first time it will be held in the country’s history, on March 8.

He pointed out that the completion of the University of Ghana Stadium, which was initiated during the administration of President J. A. Kufuor but was left uncompleted for 8 years by subsequent governments, is significant for two reasons.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emphasized that the facility will not only serve as the main venue for the African Games but will also stand as a lasting legacy to the University of Ghana, coinciding with its 75th Anniversary.
