The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has announced a new partnership with road transport service providers to launch TransportGhana, a digital platform aimed at modernizing and streamlining the commercial road transport industry.

This initiative is intended to transition the industry from manual to digital operations, with the goal of enhancing road safety and operational efficiency for both transport operators and travelers.

TransportGhana is an ICT interface designed to facilitate the registration and licensing of road transport service providers. It will also be used for electronic ticketing, vehicle tracking, and other related activities. The platform aims to formalize the regulatory responsibilities of the authority and provide a comprehensive overview of the entities operating within the sector.

During an engagement session between the NRSA and transport operators, the Director-General of NRSA, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng, emphasized the Authority’s shift towards digitalization as a crucial step to augment road safety. He highlighted the pressing need for such initiatives, citing the escalating number of reported road accidents and the need to address this issue. Mr. Adonteng also asserted that the introduction of TransportGhana aligns with broader efforts to continually enhance road safety and elevate the quality of service within the road transport sector.

The Director for Regulations, Inspections, and Compliance at NRSA, Kwame Koduah Atuahene, urged service providers to register on the platform to advance road safety. He recognized the predominantly informal nature of the transport sector and stressed the importance of progressing step by step towards formalization.

Overall, TransportGhana represents an important step towards modernizing and formalizing the road transport industry in Ghana. By leveraging digital technology, the NRSA aims to improve road safety and operational efficiency, ultimately benefiting both transport operators and travelers.
