‘Take a trip to Africa; go visit home’ – Michael Blackson to BET Awards attendees

US-based Ghanaian/Liberian comedian Michael Blackson reiterates Sarkodie’s message to Africans in the diaspora at the just-ended BET Awards.

The ceremony held at the Microsoft Theater on June 25, 2023, in Los Angeles, California, saw hundreds (if not a thousand) of Black Americans in attendance.

Even though the ceremony serves as an occasion to celebrate hard-working African Americans and other people of colour in the entertainment industry, Michael Blackson seized the opportunity to encourage attendees to visit Africa.

Michael, while receiving the ‘Best International Act’ on behalf of Nigerian afrobeats star Burna Boy, told the attendees to visit home (Africa) and experience their ancestral roots.

“This is for the continent of Africa and for afrobeats. Shout out to all of you and congrats to Burna Boy,” he said during his acceptance speech.

He added: “Everbody, take a trip to Africa; go visit home.”

Michael Blackson has been an advocate of sending African Americans back to their roots in Africa. He recently established a free ultramodern school in his hometown in the Central Region of Ghana.

Burna Boy, who received four nominations at this year’s BET Awards, beat Aya Nakamura (France), Ayra Starr (Nigeria), Central Cee (UK), Ella Mai (UK), Ko (South Africa), L7nnon (Brazil), Stormzy (UK), Tiakola (France) and Uncle Waffles (Swaziland) to win the ‘Best International Act’ award.
