Sudan ex-PM Abdalla Hamdok partly blames war on diplomatic neglect

Sudan’s former Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok, has partially attributed the continuing war in the country to what he describes as diplomatic ‘neglect’ from Western powers.

Hamdok expressed his belief that the Western countries had not done enough to bring peace to Sudan, leading to the ongoing conflict.

His comments come as the country continues to grapple with violence and instability, following the ousting of long-time ruler Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

The Sudanese government has been working towards achieving peace and stability through a fragile power-sharing deal between the military and civilian leaders, but the country is still plagued by armed conflicts and socio-political tensions.

Hamdok’s remarks shed light on the complexities and challenges in Sudan’s path to peace, as well as the role that external actors play in the country’s political landscape.

It underscores the need for concerted and sustained diplomatic efforts from the international community to facilitate the resolution of conflicts and support the country’s journey towards stability and development.

The former Prime Minister’s candid assessment serves as a reminder of the importance of constructive engagement and support from the global community in addressing the root causes of conflict and promoting peace in Sudan.

It also underscores the need for a more proactive and coordinated approach to conflict resolution, in order to prevent the escalation of violence and the further destabilization of the region.
