Prempeh College launches 75th anniversary celebration

The Board of Governors of Prempeh College has officially launched the 75th Anniversary Celebrations of the College with a short ceremony attended by distinguished Ghanaians who are alumni of the school. The theme for the celebrations is ‘Celebrating 75 Years of Outstanding Leadership and Service to Society.’

The event kicked off with a Guard of Honour at the college’s forecourt by the school’s vibrant cadet corps, followed by a procession and inspection led by the Ashanti Regional Director of Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr William Kwame Amankrah-Appiah, a former student of the College.

Addressing the gathering, the Headmaster of Prempeh College, Very Rev. Lewis Asare, who is also an alumni, highlighted the school’s exceptional performance in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), achieving a remarkable 94.6 per cent pass rate over the past four years.

He proudly mentioned the robotics team’s numerous victories, including being crowned World Champions in 2020, as well as their success in sports and extracurricular activities. The College has also clinched the National Science and Maths Quiz title five times.

Eugene Nkrumah Yeboah, the College Prefect, emphasized the significant contribution of Prempeh College to developing human resources in the country and its continuous efforts to maintain a legacy of excellence in education.

The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Benjamin Kweku Acolatse, who is the Global President of Prempeh College Old Students’ Association and the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Finance & Administration at the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), urged alumni and other stakeholders to support the College’s ongoing projects, including the Cooking Mechanism project, the main gate repair, the CCTV installation project, the athletic oval construction, and the e-library project.

Guest Speaker, Prof Peter Donkor, a renowned Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the KNUST and an Honorary Consultant Surgeon at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), took the audience down memory lane, tracing the history and growth of Prempeh College since its establishment in 1949.

He commended the dedication of both past and present staff members in enhancing the school’s infrastructure, fostering academic excellence, and instilling discipline in students. Prof. Donkor stressed the importance of continuous improvement and national transformation, calling on the College to lead in addressing societal challenges.

In conclusion, the Apagyahene, Oheneba Owusu Afriyie IV, unveiled a new logo and cloth for the anniversary, while a Fundraising Committee has been set up to mobilize resources for the 75th Anniversary celebrations.
