Renowned Ghanaian news anchor Kojo Yankson recently joined the conversation on the benefits of marriage, challenging the common belief that marriage primarily favors men.
Yankson made a bold statement, questioning the financial advantages that marriage supposedly offers men. He argued that it is hard to quantify how marriage significantly benefits men compared to the benefits it provides women.
“If I am being practical and I’m assessing things based on a simple cost benefit cases, it is hard to see how marriage benefits a man, especially if you are comparing it to how it benefits a woman,” Yankson emphasized.
He went on to challenge his audience to identify the unique privileges or advantages that married men have over their single counterparts. Yankson asked, “What are the things a married man can do or possess that a single man cannot? Name just one, and I’ll concede my point.”
His remarks have ignited a debate on traditional views of marriage and its perceived benefits for men, shedding light on the changing discourse around relationships and gender roles in modern society.
