The talented transgender activist and “Pose” actress Cecilia Gentili passed away on Tuesday, and her fans are left mourning her tragic death.
Without any official statement about her cause of death, fans can only cling to the recently shared post on her Instagram page, which announced, “Our beloved Cecilia Gentili passed away this morning to continue watching over us in spirit. Please be gentle with each other and love one another with ferocity.”
LGBTQIA+ advocacy group GLAAD also paid tribute to Gentili for her dedication to working alongside various organizations, founding Trans Equity Consulting and Decrim NY, while also acknowledging her recent win of the American Library Association’s 2023 Stonewall Book Award for her memoir, ‘Faltas: Letters to Everyone in My Hometown Who Isn’t My Rapist’. The book was released in 2022 and hailed by many.
Gentili’s death follows her successful acting career, notably with a role on the first season of “Pose” as Miss Orlando, who provides discounted plastic surgery to trans women. She was a transgender icon, who has had a long and impactful journey to becoming the influential woman she was.
After hearing about Gentili’s death, her co-stars took to social media to honor her.
Actress Dominique Jackson wrote an emotional tribute, describing Gentili as “AN ACTIVIST, AN ICON, A TRAILBLAZER, A MOTHER, A WIFE, AN ACTRESS AND COMEDIAN, AN AMAZING SISTER AND A PHENOMENAL HUMAN BEING!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💕💕💕💕💕💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖,” and called Gentili a “REST IN POWER AND ACCOMPLISHMENT BEAUTIFUL SISTER.”
Gentili’s official memorial service has yet to be announced, however, her fans gathered together on Wednesday night at a church in New York City to pay their respects.
As many remember her, she will always be appreciated for her invaluable contribution to the world.
