Ghanaian rapper Okyeame Kwame is not your typical “retired musician” as he continues to make waves in the music industry after 26 years.

At the age of late 40s, Okyeame Kwame has been nominated in this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) for his song “Insha Allah” featuring King Paluta, in the Hiplife Song of the Year category.

Despite his long career in the industry, Okyeame Kwame is not resting on his laurels. He told Graphic Showbiz that he is determined to win the ultimate Artiste of the Year award again, which he last won in 2009. The rapper is working hard to release a massive album this year to achieve his goal.

Okyeame Kwame, born Kwame Nsiah Apau, has been a symbol of resilience and hard work in an industry quick to sideline older artists. After winning multiple awards in the early 2000s as part of the duo Akyeame, he made a successful comeback as a solo artist and clinched the Artiste of the Year award in 2009.

The father of two continues to push boundaries and get nominations in prestigious music awards, a feat unmatched by his peers from the 90s. Okyeame Kwame attributes his success to having a good management team, staying innovative, learning from others, and having a young team that understands the current music landscape.
