Nigeria’s Ahmed Musah says ‘we’re just proud of ourselves’ despite losing Afcon 2023 title to Ivory Coast

Nigeria forward Ahmed Musah has shared his thoughts on his team’s defeat in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final to Ivory Coast.

On Sunday night, the Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat to Ivory Coast in the final of the continental showpiece.

The match, which took place at the Stade Olympic Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, saw the Elephant come from behind to claim victory and lift their third continental title.

Despite William Troost-Ekong heading home the opening goal in the first half, the Super Eagles were unable to hold onto their lead, as Ivory Coast staged a comeback to secure the win.

Frank Kessie netted the equalizer before Sabastian Haller sealed the victory in the 81st minute mark, leaving Nigeria with a loss and Ivory Coast with the trophy.

Speaking after the game, Ahmed Musah expressed pride in his team’s performance, saying, “In any tournament, there is a winner and a loser, so we are just proud of ourselves.”

It was a challenging tournament for Musah, who struggled for playing time throughout the 2023 AFCON.
