Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey has taken legal action against four social media users who accused him of fathering his colleague Mercy Chinwo’s son.

The singer, through his lawyers, filed a petition with Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police to investigate and prosecute the individuals involved in spreading false information.

The allegations surfaced after Mercy Chinwo and her husband, Blessed Uzochikwa, shared photos of their son on social media.

The suspects, Okoronkwo Ejike, Kingsley Ibeh, Terrence Ekot, and DJ SpoiltKid, claimed that Nathaniel Bassey was the biological father of Mercy’s child, leading to a public uproar.

In the petition, Nathaniel Bassey’s legal team highlighted the severe impact of the false allegations on their client’s reputation and character. They cited specific sections of the Criminal Code Act and Cybercrimes laws that were violated by the accused individuals.

The lawyers emphasized the damaging effects of such defamatory statements on social media and called for swift action to prevent further harm to Nathaniel Bassey’s image. They stressed the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions on social media platforms.
