US actor Jonathan Majors, best known for his role as Kang in the Marvel films, is facing a civil lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, British choreographer Grace Jabbari.
The lawsuit, filed in a New York federal court, accuses Majors of battery, assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, malicious prosecution, and defamation.
This legal action follows a criminal conviction in which Majors was found guilty of attacking and harassing Ms Jabbari. He is set to be sentenced in April and could potentially face up to a year in prison.
According to court documents, Ms Jabbari alleges that Majors subjected her to a “pattern of pervasive domestic abuse” that started in 2021 and continued through 2023. The documents also detail several instances of alleged violent interactions and verbal assaults.
One particular incident mentioned in the lawsuit occurred in September 2022, where Majors allegedly attacked Ms Jabbari and inflicted serious injuries. After confiding in a member of Majors’ management team about the abuse, Ms Jabbari claims that Majors became angry and retaliated.
In response to the lawsuit, Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, stated that they are preparing counterclaims against Ms Jabbari. However, Ms Jabbari’s lawyer, Brittany Henderson, commended her client for holding someone of Majors’ stature accountable, calling it an act of bravery.
Following his criminal conviction, Marvel announced that they would no longer collaborate with Majors. In a recent interview, Majors expressed shock at the jury’s verdict and questioned the evidence presented during the trial.
Majors’ portrayal of villain Kang the Conqueror in Marvel projects like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and the Disney+ series Loki has garnered significant attention. He was also set to star in the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty before facing these legal challenges.
