J. Cole apologises for Kendrick Lamar diss track, says it was ‘lame’ and ‘goofy’

J. Cole has recently expressed regret over releasing a song aimed at Kendrick Lamar, vowing to remove the track from streaming services.

The song, titled 7 Minute Drill, was a response to Lamar’s verse on the hit single Like That, where he asserted his dominance in the rap game. In his song, Cole criticized Lamar and called his latest album “tragic.”

However, during a performance at the Dreamville Festival in North Carolina, Cole admitted that he felt terrible after releasing the track and described his response as “lame” and “goofy.” He apologized to Lamar, acknowledging the misstep and expressing a desire to return to his true path.

The feud between the two rappers began last year with Cole’s song First Person Shooter, where he, Drake, and Lamar were referred to as the current “big three” names in hip-hop. Lamar took offense to this and declared himself as the sole dominant figure in the industry in his verse on Like That.

Despite feeling pressured to respond to Lamar, Cole admitted that the aggressive tone of his track didn’t sit well with his spirit. He praised Lamar’s talent and hoped that the fellow rapper hadn’t taken offense to his lyrics. Cole promised to remove or update 7 Minute Drill from his latest album on streaming platforms.

This incident is not the first time a rapper has retracted a diss track. In 2011, veteran New York MC Canibus released a song called J Clone aimed at Cole, but later apologized and acknowledged Cole’s superiority in the industry.
