George Boateng, a former Ghana assistant coach, has shared his thoughts on what needs to be done following Ghana’s disappointing exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Boateng emphasized the importance of the coaching staff and Ghana Football Association coming together to analyze the situation and ensure that such an outcome does not happen again in the future.

Reflecting on the team’s elimination, Boateng acknowledged the challenge of not progressing to the next stage but stressed that it’s part of football.

“All you can do as a coaching staff is accept responsibility for it, evaluate what went wrong together with the FA and players to help ourselves to make sure that next time when we do get another opportunity, we learn from it,” Boateng shared in an interview on Sky Sports.

Ghana’s failure to advance came after finishing third in a group containing Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique.

The Black Stars’ journey came to an end with a 2-1 loss to Cape Verde, followed by back-to-back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique, confirming their elimination from the competition.

This marks the second consecutive tournament in which the Black Stars have exited at the group stages without securing a victory, extending the country’s wait for its fifth AFCON title to 42 years.
