Equatorial Guinea’s football federation has taken disciplinary action against two players following alleged incidents of misconduct during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Emilio Nsue, who was the top scorer at the finals with five goals, has been suspended indefinitely after reportedly being involved in “several episodes of serious indiscipline.”

Iban Salvador, a midfielder for National Thunder, has also been suspended for an “unpleasant incident” in Abidjan on 29 January, which resulted in Ivorian police intervention and a delay in the squad’s return to Equatorial Guinea.

Nsue, who currently plays for Intercity, previously had stints at English clubs Birmingham City and Middlesbrough, and is the country’s all-time top international scorer with 22 goals.

The next competitive fixtures for the National Thunder will be in June for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. This suspension will see both Nsue and Salvador missing those matches.
