Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana, announces, Tuesday, April 30, for Ejisu by-Election

Following the demise of the member of parliament for Ejisu Constituency, Mr. John Kumah the Electoral Commission of Ghana, has announced Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the date for a by-election.

The MP, who doubles as the deputy minister of finance died on Thursday, March 7, 2024, after he felt sick. He died on his way to Accra as he was being onboarded in an ambulance from his constituency.

Mr. John Kumah died at the age of 45, and left behind six children and a wife. His parliamentary seat therefore becomes vacant which calls for a by-election.

Nine candidates from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), have been elected by the vetting committee to contest in a primary on April 6, to elect a candidate. Meanwhile, the opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is yet to show concern in the upcoming by-election.

By the close of nominations on Thursday, April 4, 2024 nine candidates from the NPP, submitted their applications and were all cleared to contest.

Below are the aspirants and their ballot positions.

The Director of Elections for the NPP, speaking to the media said all nine candidates have been cleared to contest, as an avenue of providing equal opportunities for party members who are interested in the contest.

“The Committee has recommended that all of them be allowed to participate in this contest. Also, we’ve conducted the ballot. We’ve informed them that the National Executives of the party will meet them on Tuesday,” Mr Nimako said.
