Urban gospel legend Cwesi Oteng has opened up about never receiving royalties from GHAMRO, the Ghana Music Rights Organization, despite years of making music.

GHAMRO, established in 1993, aims to collect and distribute royalties equitably to Ghanaian musicians.

However, the organization has faced accusations of inefficiency and corruption, leaving many rights owners complaining about how royalties have been disbursed.

Speaking to Ghanaweekend.com, Cwesi Oteng, who released his first album ‘Blessed Are They’ in 2008, surprisingly stated that he has never received royalties from GHAMRO, despite being registered with the organization. He went on to say that the systems in Ghana are not functioning well, forcing him to focus on other avenues to make money with his music.

The ‘God Dey Bless Me’ hitmaker called on the authorities to ensure that structures are put in place for the collection and disbursement of royalties.

Despite his experience, Cwesi Oteng is currently promoting his new single dubbed ‘Your Love’. This revelation is a reminder of the challenges faced by Ghanaian musicians when it comes to getting their fair share of royalties.
