Ghanaian afrobeats musician Camidoh has lost the BET Awards ‘Viewers Choice: Best New International Act award to Cameroonian singer Libianca Fonji.

Libianca, whose 2020 international hit single ‘People’ topped many charts and amassed over 130 million views on YouTube, emerged the winner.

Even though the clear category favourite was Nigerian singer Asake, who is currently on top of the world with many bangers and stage performances, Libianca’s win was persuading — considering the weight of her first international hit.

Camidoh, on the other hand, achieved huge success under the year in review. His hit single “Sugarcane” topped local and international charts, and garnered over 6 million YouTube views. The remix, which features Mayorkun, King Promise and Darkoo, has received nearly 70 million views on YouTube alone.

Camidoh was on the BET Awards red carpet on Sunday (June 25) where he linked up with some top international stars, including rapper Boosie Badazz and comedian Michael Blackson.

“Super Proud of my team & I…The Milestone is Craaazzyy. Time to go twice as hard!
Thanks for rocking with me,” Camidoh wrote on Instagram after his loss.
