Traders and commercial drivers in Suhum, in the Eastern region of Ghana, recently benefited from a free medical screening exercise.

The initiative, fully funded by the financial institution, ASA Savings and Loans, aimed to provide healthcare access to individuals who may not have the time to go for medical check-ups due to their trading activities.

The participants were screened for various health conditions, including eye ailments, blood pressure, hepatitis B, diabetes, and malaria. In addition to the medical screenings, the traders also received treated mosquito nets for malaria prevention.

Many of the traders expressed their gratitude for the intervention, as they often find it difficult to visit hospitals due to their busy schedules. Emelia Ponti, a trader, mentioned that the screening exercise provided her and her colleagues with much-needed medications and valuable health advice.

A medical team from Modern Care Clinic conducted the screenings, revealing that out of 173 people screened, 45 had high blood pressure, 15 had high sugar levels, 7 tested positive for malaria, and 145 had eye allergy conjunctivitis. However, a majority of the individuals were deemed generally safe.

Rahman Akugri, the head of the medical team, praised ASA Savings and Loans for consistently attending to the health needs of its clients and the communities within which the company operates. The exercise aligns with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility in supporting communities, as explained by David Amevor, the Area Manager for ASA in the jurisdiction.

Overall, the medical screening exercise organized by ASA Savings and Loans in Suhum serves as a testament to the company’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and contributing to the well-being of the communities it serves.
