The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC), recently organized a capacity-building workshop for student leaders from selected schools in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.

The primary focus of the workshop was to equip the student leaders with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead effectively in their schools and communities in order to contribute towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The participants, who were school prefects and student representative council leaders, were selected from WALLAHS Senior High School, Mawuko Girls E.P Senior High School, Taviefe Senior High School, Sokode Technical Senior Highs School, Mawuli Senior Highs School, and Ola Girls Senior Highs School.

During the workshop, the students were educated on the 17 SDGs established in 2015, which are designed to address issues such as poverty, inequality, environmental protection, universal health coverage, justice, and prosperity.

Delivering the workshop, AGI’s Volta, Eastern, and Oti Regional Treasurer, Dela Gbeve, emphasized the importance of preparing the younger generation to contribute towards the development and sustainability of the Volta Region. He highlighted the significance of leadership and sustainability training in shaping the future leaders of the region.

The students also received guidance from Leadership Coach Bismark Tay on leadership skills, discipline, and how to effectively lead their peers and school administration towards achieving their goals. Tay encouraged the student leaders to serve as role models of discipline and uphold the standards of their schools.

Acknowledging the initiative by AGI and GES, Tay emphasized the crucial need for investing time and effort in developing future leaders. He stressed the importance of consciously preparing the youth to lead and sustain the development of the region.

Looking ahead, Tay urged the organizing institutions to expand the leadership workshop to cover more areas in the region to maximize its impact. A communique was also issued to be presented to the President through the RM, outlining an action plan for implementing measures to ensure the sustainability of society.

The workshop not only equipped the student leaders with valuable skills and knowledge but also reinforced the importance of leadership development in nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. It underscored the essential role that young individuals play in shaping the future of their communities and the nation at large.
