Actor Charles Dierkop dies aged 87 after heart attack and pneumonia

Charles Dierkop, the talented actor known for his roles in iconic films such as The Sting, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Police Woman, passed away on Sunday at a hospital in Sherman Oaks. He was 87 years old.

According to reports, Dierkop suffered from a heart attack and pneumonia before his death. The Wisconsin-born actor began his career with an uncredited role opposite Paul Newman in The Hustler. He later starred alongside Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting, which won the Best Picture Oscar in 1973.

Dierkop also had a successful career on television, appearing in numerous episodes of popular shows like Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Star Trek, Batman, and Mission: Impossible. He played Detective Pete Royston in the series Police Woman from 1974 to 1978, opposite Angie Dickinson.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Dierkop continued to work in television, guest-starring on shows like Simon & Simon, The Fall Guy, T.J. Hooker, Matt Houston, and MacGyver. He also appeared in several B-movies well into the 2000s, with his last credited role in the 2018 film Heaven & Hell.

Dierkop is survived by his daughter, Lynn. His impressive body of work on both the big screen and TV screen will be remembered and cherished by fans for years to come.
