Savannah Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, NPP, Sulemana Iddrisu has made a passionate plea to the people of the region to refrain from turning it into a hotbed of violence and tension under the guise of attending funerals.

Mr. Sulemana emphasized the importance of maintaining unity and peace among the sons and daughters of the region, regardless of their political affiliations. He highlighted an incident that occurred during the final funeral rites of the late Queen mother of Busunu, Busunuwuriche Azara Seidu, where clashes erupted between supporters of the NPP and NDC, requiring security personnel to intervene.

Prominent political figures from both sides were present at the funeral, including former President John Dramani Mahama, the Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema-Opare, and other high-ranking officials. Mr. Sulemana recounted another similar incident during the seventh-day funeral rites of the late Yagbonwura, Tuntumba Sulemana Bore Essa II, where he personally intervened to restore peace.

He urged supporters of both parties to prioritize peace and unity over political differences, highlighting the need to preserve the legacy of their forefathers. Professor Kalamonia echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the destructive nature of politics when it comes to dividing families and communities.

Mr. Sulemana also warned against the alleged involvement of vigilante groups in political activities, urging the leadership of both parties to prevent future disturbances in the region. He expressed disappointment at the politicization of funerals and called for a more respectful approach to such occasions.

In conclusion, the call to maintain peace and unity in the Savannah Region transcends partisan interests and serves as a reminder of the importance of putting community well-being above political agendas.
